"Zara" Goes North for Spring Tour

DURHAM, N.C. (FEBRUARY 22, 2020) - Zara creative team, Andrew Aghapour and producer/director Ashley Melzer, will head to the northeast this April for a special tour. Performances and class visits will take place at University of Vermont, Middlebury and Hamilton College in the first week of April.

Zara is a comedic account of Andrew Aghapour’s experiences as an anxious, asthmatic Muslim kid in search meaning. Drawing on personal stories, philosophy, and the history of monotheism, Zara is Andrew’s story about how identity is inherited and remade in 21st-century America.

Zara additionally won support from Durham Arts Council’s Catalyst Grant, a program supported by their Annual Arts Fund and the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources. Additionally, “Zara” is supported by UNC Chapel Hill's Performing Arts Special Activities Fund. Zara was additionally incubated by special grant funding at UNC Chapel Hill including support from the Performing Arts Special Activities Fund and the Humanities for the Public Good Initiative.
